In the last article we talked about What Will Affect Froth Flotation Process And What's the Solution?, we just talked about 3 aspects that will affect flotation process. Apart from them, concentration and pH value of plup can also affect flotation effect.

How do these two parameters affect froth flotation and what's the solution? Let's drive in now.

1. Concentration of pulp

In practical application, the concentration of pulp needs to be determined according to the nature of flotation ore and relevant technical requirements.

  • When the ore is roughed, the pulp concentration is 25% ~ 35%, and the flotation fine particles and the ore with high mud content is 10% ~ 20%. When the flotation density of the mineral, the material particles are larger, the use of thick pulp. When the flotation density is small, the mineral of fine grain and slime material is used thinner pulp.

  • To meet the froth flotation requirements, the concentration of pulp can be adjusted by adding the required water and flotation agents. Add a collector or activator to increase the hydrophobicity of the surface of the mineral to be floating, or add an inhibitor to make the surface of the mineral to become more hydrophilic to prevent them from floating, or add a foaming agent to promote the formation and dispersion of bubbles.

2. pH value of the pulp

The pH value of the pulp has a great influence on the flotation index. Minerals can only be fully froth flotation or inhibited under the appropriate pH value. Adjusting agents, such as lime, sodium sulfate and sulfuric acid, are needed to control the pH value.

There are two general methods of pH control :

  • Constant adjustment to keep the pH constant. This is a kind of method that some domestic selective factories adopt more commonly.

  • Track the change of mineral properties and adjust the pH value in time to obtain a better flotation index. For example, the maximum possible recovery can be achieved by adjusting the pH value in the process of copper-nickel mixed flotation. In the mixing and dosing process, it is necessary to prepare the pulp of suitable concentration for the next process.

froth flotation process

When the adjusted pulp is sent to the froth flotation tank, the ore particles with strong hydrophobicity on the surface adhere to the bubble surface and are carried by the bubble, and float up to the slurry level to form a foam layer, which is scraped out to become concentrate. Stay in the slurry, with the slurry flow out of the tank for tailings.

In froth flotation process, the pH value of the pulp needs to be paid close attention to at all times. The pH value needs to be measured with a test paper every once in a while to ensure that the pH value remains at a stable value. And the pulp concentration and liquid level need to be stable, ensure scraping, foam to scrape out the full plate. In the separation process, the stability of the whole process is very important.

Conslusion

Thus it can be seen that the complexity of the froth flotation process is highly, and both of preliminary ore grinding operation and froth flotation separation process are very important. So it is recommended to do a professional flotation process design before putting it into production. Only in this way can a good flotation index be guaranteed.
